It's a love fest, for now. There's a phenomenon in the media known as "the build-up" in which the press makes someone or something sound great so they have something to tear down later. Let's see what they say if and when NN starts to raise some hell and shake some shit up.
I have a weird reaction to the publicity. While I think it's good in that it might create a larger membership, somehow, I view it negatively -- as a corrupting force. Besides, (as a racist and a elite snob), I tend to doubt that it will make much of a connection with the constuancies I'm most interested in bringing on board -- minorities and the poor working class, who tend not to already be voting progressively on important issues. My concern is that elation or complacency about such publicity might draw energy away from the grassroots outreach in underrepresented communities. Or maybe, as a new-ager would suggest, I just can't stand success.
